Ukraine used U.S. ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory on Tuesday, taking advantage of newly granted permission from the outgoing administration of U.S. President Joe Biden on the war's 1,000th day.

The first strike, against an ammunition depot, comes days after the U.S. authorized the use of ATACMS on Russian territory.

The attack came just days after President Biden gave Ukraine permission to use the weapons to strike targets inside Russia.

President Joe Biden has approved providing anti-personnel land mines to Ukraine, a U.S. official told Reuters. Ukraine had committed to not using the mines in densely populated areas, an unnamed official told the Washington Post,
