The mountain village of Ruidoso has returned to the grim rituals of rebuilding from flash flooding. Crews are working to clear twisted metal, broken trees and muddy debris from streets and homes days after monsoon rains triggered a deadly flash flood in southern New Mexico.

A flash flood overtook the Ruidoso area in New Mexico on Tuesday, July 8, prompting an emergency declaration and multiple rescues.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was in Ruidoso on Thursday, July 10, 2025, where she reported federal funding will be coming.

"Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flash flooding of creeks, streams and ditches in the South Fork Burn Scar. Severe debris flows can also be anticipated across roads. Roads and driveways may be washed away in places.

Residents struggled as flash floods swamped Albuquerque homes. Locals in New Mexico, battled flooding after heavy rainfall inundated a residential neighbourhood on July 24. Footage captured by Orlando Marquez shows murky floodwater seeping into homes as his family desperately tried to sweep the deluge out.

It's going to be a busy weather day across New Mexico with rain and storms likely popping up throughout the day Tuesday.

Search teams, including fire crews and swift water rescue teams, are combing through neighborhoods in Vado to ensure residents are accounted for.
