Mississippi Senate District 26 became vacant after John Horhn resigned to become mayor of Jackson. The winner will serve the remainder of his term.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — Gov. Tate Reeves set the special election date for a north Mississippi judicial seat. The election is for the Court of Appeals District 1, Position 1, which John Weddle temporarily occupies. The special election date is Nov. 3, 2026. The qualifying deadline is Feb. 2.

Both candidates highlighted economic security, education, and public safety as key issues for the district. Two candidates will face off in the Dec. 2 runoff election for Mississippi Senate District 26, a seat left vacant after Sen. John Horhn became Jackson's mayor in July.
